Announced in India a few days ago, the model has just gained global launch, reaching also other markets, including China – manufacturer’s birthplace.
Over there, the laptop gained a new nomenclature, being called the Y97 , and in addition, underwent a remarkable downgrade in its hardware, to leave the price as low as possible.
In the Chinese version, for example, the 6.41 “screen has been switched by a 6.3”, and IPS LCD in Super AMOLED viewing; in addition, the variant does not even have any kind of fingerprint reader (neither in the body nor far below the screen).
This model will only use facial recognition as biometrics – by the way, does not rely on 3D technology, only relying on common camera sensors coupled with artificial intelligence for recognition.
The Snapdragon 660 chipset was replaced by a MediaTek Helio P60 with 2 GHz and ARM Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. Instead of 6 GB of RAM, the Y97 only counts with 4 GB, but at least it maintains the internal storage of 128 GB (expandable via microSD).
Another compromise in order to reduce the values was the camera sensors.
The rear dual-cam, instead of having a 12 MP (f / 1.8) + 5 MP (f / 2.4) module, brought a 16 (f / 2.0) + 2 (f / 2.4) MP; the front camera of 25 MP (f / 2.0) was also changed by a lower one, of 16 MP (f / 2.0).
But the commitments do not end there; the 3400 mAh battery in the Chinese model brings only 3315 mah (a little difference, but that should be accentuated by the presence of a less economical processor).
