Opel Corsa: a German rather French

The sixth generation of the Opel Corsa subcompact will arrive at the end of 2019 and will be all new: in style, but also (and above all) in mechanics.

SOBRIE LINES – The acquisition by the French PSA seems to have done well to Opel, which after returning to the budget profit in the first half of 2018 is preparing to renew a model among the most important of its list: at the end of 2019 will in fact, the sixth generation of the Opel Corsa waslaunched , the rival “four meters” of the Peugeot 208, Renault Clio and Volkswagen Polo, which is awaiting a profound renewal. Our graphic reconstruction (above) shows what the main news will be.

The German house will not give up the sober and inconspicuous style typical of the Opel, but will add details in step with the times as the led headlights, the roof and the often rear pillar of the roof.

POINT OF SHARING – The news will be more substantial from the mechanical point of view, because the  Opel Corsa now on sale is based on the platform built in the early 2000s in the alliance between General Motors (the old owner of Opel) and the Fiat, the same that gave rise to the Grande Punto in 2005.

The new mechanics will always have front-wheel drive, but it will be common to other PSA compact cars and can be modified for the installation of the batteries: in 2020 the Corsa will attain zero emissions. The debut will include the well-known 1.2 petrol cylinders and the 1.5 diesels, all already used for other PSA cars. In a second moment a new 1.6 petrol turbo could be added, destined for the sporty Corsa GSi.
